GMS regional knowledge sharing workshop in Southwest China
GMS Core Environment Program phase II regional knowledge sharing workshop in Tengchong, small town in the west of Yunnan, successfully brought together around 40 representatives from all six GMS countries (China, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia，Myanmar and Thailand) environment department and experts from academies to share the practical and innovative solutions developed and applied in biodiversity corridor construction in Yunnan and Guangxi project site. The topic of workshop also included regional project experience sharing and future outlook. A field visit was arranged to local national natural reserve and wetland, allowing the participants to know more about the biodiversity conservation situation in Yunnan.
Asian Development Bank (ADB) launched Biodiversity Corridor Conservation project in 2007, aiming to consolidate GMS environmental initiatives under a single integrated program. The vision of program is to achieve a poverty-free and ecologically rich GMS by mainstreaming sound environmental management across all Environment Cooperation Program sectors to enhance their development impact and sustainability.
The workshop was hosted by Foreign Economic Cooperation office (FECO), Ministry of Environment Protection of China, supported by Asia Development Bank (ADB) Environment Operation Center (EOC) and Yunnan Environment Protection Department on 27th to 28th July 2015. EOC project coordinator Mr. Teo Dang Do, Mrs. Fang Li, Deputy General of FECO MEP, and Mr. Yang Zhi Qiang, Deputy Director of YEDP attended the reception and delivered a speech.
