Myanmar Environment Delegation visited Yunnan

A 7-members delegation of Ministry of Environmental Conservation and Forestry of The Republic of the Union of Myanmar (MOECF) headed by Mrs. Khin Thida Tin, Deputy Director of Environment Conservation Department, paid a week visit to Yunnan Province at the beginning of August 2015. Yunnan Environment Protection Department (YEDP) received the delegation with warm welcome and carefully planned schedule.

On the arrival day of the delegation, Director General of YEDP, Mr. Guohua YAO met the Mrs. Khin Thida Tin in Kunming. Two parties exchanged views on cooperation in the field of environmental protection. Guohua YAO said China and Myanmar are neighbors linked by mountains and rivers and we are facing various common environmental challenges emerged during the rapid social and economic development. Each partner has experiences on ecological development, biodiversity conservation and rural environment management, which are worth sharing. The Chinese Government’s initiative of building "One belt, one road" received positive response from the Republic of Union of Myanmar. " One belt, one road" strategy emphasizes cooperation with countries and regions along the Silk Route to strengthen cross-boundary ecological and environmental protection for greener Silk Road, which provided the platform for both sides to further expand and deepen cooperation in the field of environmental protection.

We hope that China and Myanmar environmental protection units at all levels can enhance interaction, pragmatic promote multi -level cooperation to move forward and achieve mutual benefits.

Mrs. Khin Thida Tin appreciated Director’s visit invitation and warm reception, expressed appreciation for the achievements and efforts of the Yunnan provincial government in the field of environmental protection. She said Myanmar is willing to strengthen the collaboration with China in environment protection fields, learn from each other, and work together for green sustainable development in the region.

Sino-Myanmar environment cooperation conference was held on 5th August in YEDP meeting room. Both partners briefly introduced its efforts and achievements made on environmental protection. Views on environmental issues of common concern and future collaboration were also exchanged in a friendly atmosphere.

Both partners signed minute, agreeing to demonstrate environmental cooperation and establish cooperation mechanism between Yunnan Province (China) and Shang State (Myanmar), as well as between Ruili City (China) and Muse City (Myanmar), to jointly move cross-country cooperation forward.

During visiting, the delegation conducted field visit to Ruli, Dali and Kunming to inspected the environmental protection work in Yunnan, and attended exchange forum with Ruili environment protection bureau.

The visiting marked the bilateral cooperation on environment protection between China and Myanmar to a new stage.
